How does Iceotope’s liquid cooling technology work?
Iceotope’s patented technology comprises three-stage liquid cooling: the first stage is to immerse the electronics in a dielectric coolant within a sealed blade, this primary coolant, in direct contact with all components, conducts heat away from the electronics to a finned plate cold wall secured to the side of each blade.
The second stage is gravity fed water-based coolant circulating through the cold wall which removes the heat away from the blade.
The third and final stage is a high pressure standard supply water pumped through a heat exchanger to remove the heat completely.

Are the cooling fluids hazardous?
The primary coolant fluid is inert, non-toxic and non-flammable.
The secondary coolant is water based.
Is there any coolant loss when a blade is inserted or removed?
Iceotope blades are sealed, hot-swappable and equipped with high quality drip-less valves to provide you with peace-of-mind of no coolant loss.
How do you ensure there are no air locks?
Primary coolant is hermetically sealed under negative pressure.
Secondary coolant has to be purged carefully during installation.
Flow rates are quite slow therefore no turbulence so air is not built up.
All air trap points are vented to top tank.
What are the limits on ambient air temperatures in which the system can operate in?
From 5C – to 60C
Which liquid cooled servers are compatible within the Iceotope’s platforms?
- CPU – Iceotope have partnered with market leader Intel® to produce a reliable, high performance liquid cooled blade which fits seamlessly alongside graphic and switch blades.
- PCIe – Iceotope have partnered with market leader AMD to produce a liquid cooled blade for S9100 offering incredible graphics performance and reliability.
- Infiniband Network Switch – Iceotope have partnered with market leader Mellanox to produce a liquid cooled alternative to the SX1036 blade offering incredible performance and reliability.
- Other configurations – additional blade configurations are under development and will be announced in the near future.
SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE
Is it possible to remove, change and swap the blades from the system?
Iceotope blades are hot-swappable which enables effective removal or insertion, without causing system disruption. Our blades and chassis feature mil-spec Staubli non-drip connectors, ensuring peace-of-mind to our customers of the safety and cleaninliness of our products.
Can users monitor and manage their systems remotely?
Yes – Iceotope installs proprietary software to monitor liquid temperature and flow. Enhanced monitoring data is available and SNMP compatible.
What certifications do Iceotope have?
Iceotope products are CE certified. We are working towards ISO 9001:2008 and ISO14001
Does Iceotope provide customers with support services and warranty?
As well as providing our customers with excellent service and commitment, our products comes with a standard warranty and maintenance agreement.
